From the 21st to 25th August 2022, The Tub presents its last exhibition at their artist-led Hackney space, a group show of 29 emerging & early career artists, whose work navigates altered, morphed, and distorted perceptions.
We are constantly at the centre of a network of realities, frantically seeking the concrete and the quantifiable. It is this self-awareness that shapes our understanding of self, others, and the world. But have you ever thought about how your perception of things is continuously manipulated by and adjusted to your senses, your memories, your current headspace?
We ask you to leave behind your established ways of being and absorb an alternate version of all things as we know them. You are here now, with the sculptural reincarnation of a dead hamster, the blur of a dog running through sky-ephemera, giant hands guided by mysterious bug-creatures, a life-sized bird person, the abstracted flows of a river, and a plethora of other oddities. Allow yourself to be open to what isn’t on the surface, and what can be deep within.
The artists selected for this exhibition explore the fragile complexities that surpass mundane experience through atmospheric observation, personal history, historical memory, and the exploration of the embodied dreamscape. Together, each of them exposes a fraction of the multidimensionality of what it means to be here, to be human— in all our polymorphisms
